Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir

Jóna Hlíf (f.1978) útskrifaðist frá fagurlistadeild Myndlistaskólans á Akureyri 2005, lauk MFA-gráðu frá Glasgow School of Art í Skotlandi 2007 og MA-gráðu í listkennslu frá Listaháskóla Íslands 2012. Jóna Hlíf hefur haldið einkasýningar á viðurkenndum sýningarstöðum, m.a. í Listasafni Reykjavíkur og í Listasafninu á Akureyri. Hún hefur tekið þátt í fjölmörgum samsýningum og eru verk hennar í eigu opinberra safna.

Textaverk, tilraunir með efni og innsetningar eru kjarninn í myndrænni tjáningu verka Jónu Hlífar. Texti sem áferð: sem leið til að birta hugsanir, við að setja fram og skapa samfélag, eða sem grundvöllur hugmynda. Í verkunum hefur Jóna Hlíf m.a. fengist við fyrirbærin kjarna, tíma og ímynd sögunnar.

Jóna Hlíf (b. 1978) graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Akureyri in 2005, completed an MFA degree from Glasgow School of Art in Scotland in 2007 and an MA degree in art education from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2012. Jóna Hlíf has partaken in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and exhibition spaces in Iceland and abroad. Her work is represented in the collection of all the major museums in Iceland

For the past few years text and experiments with various material have been the base of her works. Text as texture, as expression of thoughts, as an
inspiration for shaping society. In recent works she has been dealing with essence, time and image. Words and ideas are deconstructed and given a new meaning in harmony with the material and context of the exhibition.

Um verkið

Það er eitthvað við hversdaginn sem virðist varanlegt, við erum alltaf stödd í einhverri líðandi. En aðeins breytingin er eilíf, endalaus, ódauðleg – sagði Schopenhauer. Melgresi er stórvaxið, grænleitt eða bláleitt gras með löngu, grófu axi sem er algengt í kringum landið og má einkum finna meðfram sjó eða upp á hálendi, í foksöndum, sand-orpnum hraunum, vikrum og fjörum. Jóna Hlíf hefur áður fjallað um tímann og skynjun mannsins af honum í eldri verkum sínum. Á sama hátt fjallar hún einnig um það kvenlega (d. weibliche) í náttúrunni og hvaðan mannverur sækja orku til að upplifa fegurð í hversdagslífi.

About the work

Something about ordinary life seems permanent, we are always present in a form of passing. But change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal – Schopenhauer said. Lyme grass is coarse, tall, bluish or green and common around Iceland. It can especially be found along the sea or in the highlands, in sands, lava and at beaches. Jóna Hlíf has in previous works dealt with time and people‘s perception of it. In the same way also works with the feminine (g. weibliche) in nature and wherefrom humans harness energy in order to carry through beauty every day.
