Einar Örn Benediktsson (b. 1962) is an artist and entrepreneur from Reykjavík, Iceland. He has been an important figurehead and a leading catalyst in the Icelandic art and culture scene since the late 70’s.

Einar Örn’s drawings, a personal daily ritual, explore anecdotes and real-life situations with such unique style of execution and storytelling that it borders on the surreal and dada-esque.

During his media studies at the University of Westminster Einar Örn got involved in UK’s energetic anarcho punk music scene which led to a notable music career with Kukl and later The Sugarcubes. In his art practice Einar Örn has utilized a wide range of media; sound art, performance, words, music and multimedia but is currently focusing on works on paper, large scale murals and textile prints.

All connected through his playful way of telling stories that simultaneously amuse and baffle. Einar Örn has exhibited internationally and in Iceland and was commissioned by Performa 09 and TB-A21 for new works by his critically acclaimed experimental band Ghostigital which is a collaboration between himself and artist/musician Curver Thoroddsen. Ghostigital has performed worldwide with releases on Ipecac Recordings, Honest Jon’s and Bad Taste Ltd. Collaborations include Björk, David Byrne, Mark E. Smith, Alan Vega, Dälek and Sensational.

About the work

This piece is a continuation of the piece [constant], which was exhibited in 2018. The soundscape is created by a contact microphone recording the felt tip pen, while being used for drawing. The audio is engraved and cut onto a 10” vinyl which is then cased in a plexiglas folder. The 10” can be played on a turntable and you can hear the drawing. Every piece is a combination of three unique drawings, on either side of the plexiglass and one on the soundless side of the 10” vinyl.

Jóní Jónsdóttir and Eirún Sigurðardóttir are the current members of the art collective The Icelandic Love Corporation (ILC) an art group established in 1996 by Jóní, Eirún and Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir. Sigrún was a member from 1996-2016 and Dóra Ísleifsdóttir was a member from 1996-2001

Jóní and Eirún graduated from The Icelandic Collage of Arts and Crafts in 1996. Jóní studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts 1997-1999 and graduated with MA.Ed. in Art Education from Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2011. Eirún studied at Berlin University of the Arts 1996-1998 and graduated in 2014 from the University of Iceland with a postgraduate Diploma in Applied Gender Studies.

The Icelandic Love Corporation has actively and successfully worked in the field of visual art, both at home and abroad, using nearly all possible media—including performance, video, photography, and installation—the ILC confronts the seriousness of the world with works that blend playfulness, humor and spectacle with refreshing genuineness and subtle social critique that often incorporates ideas of traditional femininity, with feministic approach.

ILC´s Interdisciplinary art led them to collaborate with Björk Guðmundsdóttir for her Volta album in 2007 and a wide range of other collaborations e.g. GusGus, Ensamble Adapter, Ragnar Kjartansson and Kiyoshi Yamamoto

They’re works have been exhibited internationally, e.g. at ARoS Kunstmuseum Denmark, Moma Museum of Modern Art New York, The Schirn Kunsthalle Germany, Kunsthalle Wien Vienna, Amos Anderson Art Museum Helsinki and Lilith Performance Studio Sweden.
